blood arts and stuff
Jan. 29th, 2016 06:32 pmBlood Arts is the name given to special moves that the Protagonist and other God Eaters can use in GE2. The game never really explains what they are, but dialogue implies that they're effects that arise from a God Eater's specific Resonance during battle. Normally, people who don't use the P66 Bias Factor won't have Blood Arts, but the Protagonist's Power of Blood, Evoke, can give other people the ability to awaken them as long as they spend time with each other and have a bond of friendship. The Blood Art will level up in strength with training. Each person can only have one Blood Art bar the Protagonist who can use all of them given the appropriate weapon.
The exact timeframe needed to learn a Blood Art would depend on the amount of time that the person spends with her, but the ballpark should be about 3-4 weeks to awaken it. The proficiency of the Blood Art will then increase according to both amount of time spent together and also the individual's personal training. As per modly advise, this will cost 75 coins in AC bank. I can pay for your character if you don't have enough, just arrange with me beforehand.
Given the nature of Blood Arts, not all of them can be taught to non-God Eaters. They are also not teachable to non-humans. Some of them involve manipulation of Oracle Cells in the Arc, which is impossible for normal humans to achieve; so only the Blood Arts that take effect without this mechanism can be passed on to others. Blood Arts don't specifically need a weapon to be activated; an item of the appropriate size/shape is enough. E.g. a wooden plank for a blunt weapon, a long stick for a sword, etc. These are essentially manifestations of the person's will to fight, so their efficiency will also be affected by the person's mental state.
Here are the Blood Arts that can be passed on to fellow ALASTAIR human recruits! If your character uses a weapon that is not in this list, contact me and I'll draw up a new list for them. The names given here are 'default' names for the BAs when used by the Protagonist. Your character can name their Art a variation of it if they so wish to.
Long Blade - this set of skills pertain to users of two-handed swords or slashing weapons. You can see all of them in this video.
Short Blade - this set of skills pertain to users of one-handed swords or slashing weapons. You can see a video of all the techniques here.
There are also BAs for spear, hammer and scythe. If you'd like me to list those, just let me know!

Long Blade - this set of skills pertain to users of two-handed swords or slashing weapons. You can see all of them in this video.
- Iron Splitter
On executing a series of slashes, the user focuses their willpower to execute a forceful slash. The sword will be surrounded with a blue aura during this time. It sort of acts as a focused pressure wave.
- Crashing Wave Cut
Also a pressure wave attack, but this one is executed while the user is moving or dashing forward. The aura of the sword is a lighter blue colour.
- Tornado Rush
Same as the above two, except the strike is upward vertically instead of horizontal. Also, the blade aura is red.
- Skanda/Apsara Wheel
Roll around in the air vertically like a wheel. There are two variations, Skanda moves a larger horizontal distance than Apsara Wheel (stationary), so be careful about getting dizzy!
Zero Stance Blood Arts
In canon, these require the user to enter Zero Stance, a stamina-restoring stance, in order to trigger them. Basically it's a Cool Pose, so feel free to waive this requirement if you think it's awkward.
- Galestrike
The user dashes forward. Upon hitting their target, extra air blades/pressure blades will materialize and strike the target while the user dashes forward past the target. The air blades are white-ish in colour.
- Roaring Sunder
The user charges for a short while before stabbing forward with their sword. The blade has a golden aura while it activates. However, if you get hit before the pressure wave is fully charged, it'll dissipate.
- Halcyon Blade
Surrounds your sword in a purple-black aura which increases damage dealt/force of the blade. However, it costs stamina, so the user can tire out quickly.
Short Blade - this set of skills pertain to users of one-handed swords or slashing weapons. You can see a video of all the techniques here.
- Blood Cascade
Stand in place and unleash a fast flurry of slashes! The BA effect would be to enhance the user's speed. There isn't a pressure wave but the blade will have a red afterglow.
- Phantom Nail
Focus one's willpower to suddenly lunge forward for a piercing strike. There is a pressure wave and the blade aura is dark blue.
- Killer Bee Stab (why)
Same as Phantom Nail, but the user needs to do a sort of running dash first. The blade aura is red.
- Gale Edge
This one has some charge-up time, but will let the user send out four shockwaves in cardinal directions. It looks a bit like this.
- Astral Dive
Jump up and dive diagonally downwards to drive your blade in with a pressure cone wave. This might be difficult for pure human characters since a jump height of >1m is needed for significant damage. The blade aura is red.
There are also BAs for spear, hammer and scythe. If you'd like me to list those, just let me know!
